Are you qualified and insured for women's, pregnancy and postnatal massage? Yes. I'm a fully insured, accredited massage therapist specialising in women's, pregnancy and postnatal massage, alongside my work as a doula and antenatal/postnatal yoga instructor. Every treatment starts with a full consultation and health check so it's tailored safely to you.
What's the difference between Mother Nurtured and Mummy-me-time? Mother Nurtured is a Swedish massage for any woman wanting deep relaxation and tension relief — pregnancy not required. Mummy-me-time is for postnatal recovery after birth. If you're not sure which fits, message me and I'll point you the right way.
How long does a treatment take? Each treatment is a 60-minute massage, with a 75-minute appointment in total once we've covered your consultation — so I can check in on anything specific before we start.
What should I wear, and what if I'm not comfortable undressing? You'll be comfortably covered throughout with towels, undressing only to the level you're happy with. To gain the most from your treatment undressing to your underwear is preferred, but only the areas massaged at each stage of the treatment will be exposed from the towels. Tell me at your consultation if you'd rather keep more on — the massage adapts to you, not the other way round.
Do you use oils or aromatherapy, and is it safe? Yes, with pregnancy-safe and breasfeeding safe aromatherapy blends during all treatments. If you have allergies, sensitive skin, or a scent you'd rather avoid, let me know at booking and I'll adjust.
Where do treatments take place? At your own home or at Studio Mae in Arnold, Nottinghamshire — a calm, private space. Please ensure when you book that the service you select is "at home" as in studio appointments cannot be swapped to at home and vice versa.
Is pregnancy massage safe? Yes — Truly Bumptious is a full-body treatment designed to be given safely throughout the second and third trimester, using antenatal-specific techniques, safe positioning, and pregnancy-safe aromatherapy throughout.
From when can I book a pregnancy massage? From the start of your second trimester through to the third all the way until babies arrival.
Will I lie on my back or front? Neither — you'll be positioned safely and comfortably in alternating side laying positions, supported with pillows so there's no pressure on your bump or lower back, throughout the treatment.
What does it help with? It eases the aches and pains that build up through pregnancy — back, hips, shoulders — and gives you proper time to relax, which matters just as much as the physical relief.
I'm overdue or close to my due date — can massage help bring on labour? From 37 weeks, I can add reflexology to your Truly Bumptious treatment to support your body's own hormone release ahead of labour. It's a gentle, well-used technique, i will discuss this with you during consultation
Do I need my midwife's permission first? If you have a straightforward, low-risk pregnancy you don't need separate sign-off, but if you're managing a pregnancy complication or have been advised to take things carefully, check with your midwife or doctor first.
How soon after birth can I have a postnatal massage? If you had a vaginal delivery with no complications, we can usually book you in once you're feeling ready. If you had a caesarean or other abdominal delivery, please wait 6 weeks to let the area heal fully. If you're unsure, check with your midwife or GP first.
Is it safe if I'm breastfeeding? Yes — Mummy-me-time is suitable for breastfeeding mothers. You'll be positioned on your side rather than flat on your front, so there's no pressure on your breasts or stomach.
What does it help with after birth? It eases the aches that come from feeding, carrying and recovering — shoulders, neck, lower back — while giving you dedicated time to rest and reset mentally, not just physically.
Can my baby be with me? Unfortunately this is not possible at Studio Mae however when you book an at home treatment we can accommodate your baby being present, get in touch when you book and we'll talk through how this would look for you — every new mum's set-up is different.
Is one session enough, or should I book a few? Many mums find one session is a good reset, but recovery is gradual, so some prefer to space a few sessions out over the postnatal weeks. There's no one size fits all — book what feels right and we can adjust from there.
Who is Mother Nurtured for? Any woman wanting a proper reset — you don't need to be newly postnatal. It's Swedish massage for everyday tension, stress and overdue self-care, with a full consultation so i can tailor the treatment exactly to your tension spots or recovery needs.
What's the difference between this and a standard spa massage? It's delivered by a therapist who specialises in women's bodies through every life stage, with a full consultation first so the pressure, focus areas and aromatherapy blend are tailored to you specifically — not a fixed routine.
Will the pressure be too light, or too firm? Neither — we start from gentle strokes and build to deeper pressure based on what you tell me during your consultation and through the treatment itself.
What should I expect to feel afterwards? Most women feel looser in the shoulders and back, and noticeably calmer. Drink plenty of water afterwards and give yourself a few quiet minutes before rushing back into the day.
